CHRIST HAS INCLUDED YOU IN HIS LIFE
21/11/24 10:21
David was a prophetic type of the coming Messiah. Although David had feet of clay, he had a heart for God. This was not just an attraction to God but a passion to be in God’s presence. This is why Samuel was instructed to anoint David as king instead of others who may have been more practical, more ‘robust’ and manly in appearance but who nevertheless lived in externalities. David was intimate with God and this was the source of his Kingdom Agency. In much of Christianity, it is the Martha’s who get the medals. But it is the Mary’s who multiply life – because they are alive in their spirit.
HUMAN DEPTH
When Jesus was twelve, “The rabbis and religious leaders were amazed at his understanding as they conversed with him in the temple courts. He expressed an intimacy with God as his Father that was uncommon. But this was only an early glimpse of the fullness that was to come later.” (1) Jesus was one with His Father because He was one substance with God. He was a member of the trinity and a human being. Jesus was one with God and one with us. In Jesus we now possess this oneness with Father. It’s not something that we must work for. It’s a state of being in which we are invited to live by living Christ instead of religion.
CHRISTS’S STEPS TO YOU
Paul emphasises that we are “Called by the grace of Christ.” This means that God called us, we didn’t call him. And God accepted us right away despite our lack of merit. That is the order of the gospel. God accepts us and then we follow (not desert) him. But other religious systems have it the other way around. We must give God something and then he accepts us.” This is the difference between in Christ and in religion.
We can, if we are careless, represent a form of Christianity that is ‘Christian’ but not the Kingdom Jesus began, meaning that our efforts and culture lack agency because they are not spirit and life. They are externalities like activities, religious motions and adherence to positions. The cause of this is the living of religion instead of living the Lord’s Table.
NEGATING KINGDOM LIFE
“The people who suggested that the Galatians simply add the Mosaic ceremonial law to Christ were not simply suggesting a revision of the gospel but a complete reversal. We are told [in Galatians] that this teaching “perverts” or literally “reverses” the gospel. This is illuminating. If you add anything to Christ (the grace of Christ plus something else) as a requirement for acceptance with God, you completely reverse the "order" of the gospel and make it null and void.” (2) The import of this is that it’s possible to live a version of Christianity that is not the Gospel of Christ or the apostles. We may call ourselves ‘Christian’ without being Christian. If what we have is non-christianity, we are always going to think that the real thing is heresy.
